[edit] How do Alarms work in Zulu?

[edit] Events created in FileMaker

Zulu supports iCal's alarm spec so that if a record is created in FileMaker and attribute are entered for the Alarm Type, trigger minutes, etc. that alarm will fire in iCal.

Even if iCal is not running, alarms still fire, provided the machine is not asleep or turned off.

Notes about each of the alarm attributes can be found on the Alarms tab of the Field Mapping layout in the Zulu sample file (this is the layout whose contents you pasted into your file).

[edit] Events created in iCal

Events created in iCal work just as you'd expect in iCal and retain their alarm settings in FileMaker with a few limitations. This means that if you edit such an event in FileMaker you may not preserve all the iCal information originally attached to the event. Here are the limitations:

Events in iCal may have multiple alarms: an event only has one alarm in FileMaker.
While iCal can open files and run scripts as the result of an alarm, when that even is created in FileMaker the only alarm options are MESSAGE (an on-screen alert), AUDIO (an alert noise) or EMAIL (iCal sends an email to one or more addresses).
The content of iCal's email is not something we can control: the email contains the date, time, the Summary field from the event, along with the event's note field. Any email addresses or URLs in this not field will come across as clickable links in the email.
