[edit] Letting you customers make appointments on the web

Appointment slots are a feature of Google Calendar and probably the easiest way to put your available appointments on the web.

And, because appointment slots work with Zulu, you can receive your appointments right in FileMaker.

[edit] Demonstration.

Check out a short video of Google Appointment Slots working with FileMaker here: demo video

[edit] Going Further.

While this is pretty easy to implement with just Zulu and Google, with a little finesse you can make some pretty compelling solutions here. 360Works offers consulting and programming services to help you:

  • Create individual calendars for each of your resources or service types.
  • Parse the notes field from inbound appointments to link appointments to contacts in your database or make new contacts.
  • Automatically reply to new appointments with questionnaires asking for more detail.

[edit] FAQ

Do I manage my availability in FileMaker or in Google?

You'll manage the the slots in which you can take appointments in Google. And you'll use their repeating events engine to flesh out your schedule. The only thing that comes down into FileMaker from Zulu are the actual appointments your customers make.

Can I edit the appointments in FileMaker?

Yes, but if you need to move them AND want the original slot to reopen, you'll need to delete and recreate the event. This is the same in Google, if you want to move the event to another slot you need to delete it. So if a customer calls to change an appointment, you'll likely do this in Google, or delete the event for the customer and then ask that they select a new slot in Google.

Can I delete the appointments in FileMaker?

Yes, and Google will reopen that appointment's slot when you do.

Does then public see all my appointments?

No. Appointment slotted calendars only show the slots available AND the appointments that then logged in user has created. Other user's appointments show as unavailable slots.
